Reasons for writing Articles
By Paul Viverito
I just happened to come across a website where you can submit original articles. I have never written an article for publication because I never considered myself a writer however I did start to write a book about my childhood once but never finished it and I did write many technical reports and proposals when I was working for RCA. If you read some of my articles, that have been published or are in the review process for publishing, such as “ A regret in the Golden age” or “Learning to retire” there are concerns of mine that I wrote about in those articles.
I found I could satisfy these concerns by writing articles that either directly or indirectly spoke to these concerns. If nothing else writing about particular events in my life force me to remember details of my life that have been buried in some remote place in my mind that I thought were totally lost. It also helps to satisfy my concern about boredom in my retirement years it gives me something to occupy my mind while at the same time exercising it so it doesn’t become a mass of oatmeal. It also satisfies another concern of mine. It gives me the opportunity to put my thoughts and some of the special events in my life on paper that I can leave as a legacy to my five grandchildren and eight grandchildren, who really never got much of a chance to know me because of the distance that separates us.
I thought about rejection of any article I might write, but I didn’t consider myself a writer in the first place. So the fear of rejection of my articles didn’t cause me much concern. The fact that my articles weren’t rejected pleased me considerably and gave me all the more reason to give greater thought to my life and areas of interest that others might enjoy or learn from. Try it, you might enjoy it and it might help to satisfy some concerns you might have in your life.
