Marketing: 15 Years Later
By Bonnie Tapscott
Never in history has it been so hard to market your business, let alone what avenues to take to do so. First, the most important piece is your identity - a logo/brand only recognizable as your business. Once you have created this, the next step is having a website created that is 1) functional on a mobile device and 2) claimed and distributed throughout all the Search Engines. It's one thing to have a website, it's another to have one found and visible when searching for your business.
Once established, there's options for marketing websites through:
- Ad Words (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.)
- Search Engine Optimization
- Online Display (Banner Ads)
Just having the website alone can work in small areas, but in larger markets, there's a BIG playing field and to stay competitive you bid for placement in your industry. Regardless, Hibu, Google's largest premier partner in North America, can set any sized business into a program that makes them visible and searchable at a fraction of what it cost many years ago to get in the Yellowbook. There's still a small place for the original print directories throughout various markets in the US. Even having a small ad or a bold listing may be cost effective, if it works in conjunction with all of the online solutions. Directories, online directories, mobile and desktop websites, and search engine marketing work together to assure your business can be found EVERYWHERE, even if you have a limited budget.
